City college wins fashion contest
The Westside & Bharatstudent.com Style Showdown, a 9-city fashion contest, hosted its finals in Bangalore at Baldwin College Campus where KLE Society Law College walked away with the first prize. Earlier this month, during the preliminary auditions, 30 colleges participated, of which 8 were short listed to participate in the finals to showcase their talent in fashion and choreography. The jury for the finals included ace model Anupama Verma and popular MTV VJs Cyrus S and Mia.
The winning college was awarded a whopping Rs 3 lakh for their internal development and the triumphant team of the college was awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000. Mount Carmel College, the runners-up, too won a cash prize of Rs 15,000. Westside has also given an opportunity to Akram and Ritika selected by the jury to get their portfolios made in Mumbai.
Jury members also named Kumer Ali as the Bharatstudent.com Dude and Sonam as the Bharatstudent.com Diva of the evening, who have won Rs 25,000 each.
The final event concluded the month long fun filled activity in grand style. Students sashayed the ramp in smart and chic clothing from Westside as they showcased their talent of combining the best of fashion, modelling, music and choreography. The judges evaluated the colleges on the basis of style quotient, choreography, choice of music, hair and makeup, and of course, overall presentation.
Rural handicrafts
The NGO Asirbad (Association for Integrated Rural and Backward Area Development) is organising an exhibition cum sale of Indian handicrafts and handlooms. About 60 crafts people from Orissa, West Bengal, Bihar, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and other states will be displaying their exquisite creations. The exhibition will house a variety of sarees such as Kantha sarees from Kolkata, Ikat, Sambalpuri, Bomakai and Passapalli sarees from Orissa, cottons from Madurai and Hyderabad and designer sarees from Delhi. Lehenga cholis and Salwar Kmaeezes in an array of materials such as silk, georgette, tissue, chiffon and crepe and patterns like prints, brocade and embroidery will be available.
A range of handicrafts such as Pattachitra and Madhurbani paintings, distinctive jewellery from various states, applique and other works in metals, terra cotta and wood, gift articles, bags, toys and dolls will clamour for attention. There is discount of 20% on handlooms and 10% on handicrafts. The exhibition will be held at the Institute of Engineers, N0 3, Ambedkar Veedi from November 15 to 25 between 10 am and 9 pm.
