India Japan Initiative (IJI) along with Deepam Silks and Ista organised a session on ‘Indian Sarees’ for the Sakurakai Ladies Association. The session was organised in line with IJI’s objective to build bridges between the people of India and Japan at all levels. The Session was aimed at giving the Japanese ladies an insight into India’s rich and vibrant culture.
A release states that the Japanese ladies were treated to an Indian experience replete with the ceremonial aarti, gajra and bindis. The session focussed not only on how to wear a saree but also the rich and diverse variety of weaves and embellishments available in India. Deepam showcased their extensive collection of sarees including Kanjeevarams, Benarasi silks, Patolas, Mokaish and Crepes at the event.
According to a release, Geetanjali Kirloskar, Chairperson, IJI, said, “The Indian saree is the quintessential Indian Woman’s garment and has inspired a lot of interest and wonder across the world. The Japanese ladies are very keen to know more about the saree and are also eager to learn how to wear them! These sessions are in line with our objective of organising events that familiarise these women with our culture. The response we have been receiving to these sessions is very encouraging."
