Hypocrisy of Left leaders unveiled again
Sir, The smiling, happy faces of the CPM leader Sitaram Yechury and CPI leaders D Raja and Gurudas Dasgupta at the press conference in New Delhi on Thursday revealed the hypocrisy of the Left leaders.

Faces are mirrors that reflect the innermost feelings. They were like a bunch of happy go-lucky youngsters on a picnic. It is like Nero fiddling away while Rome burned.

We read of cyclone devastating West Bengal and thousands of people have been evacuated, the blood soaked Nandigram and its poor people have no clue yet of the future.

All this does not seem to bother the Left leaders. What strange logic they have found when they differentiate violence and killing of Gujarat and Nandigram.

The former was State sponsored (according to them) and who sponsored the latter? There is no justification for the violence by the CPM party’s cadre, aided by the State against the people of Nandigram.

Even the common people are worried and saddened by the events and the blood shed in W.Bengal-but not these leaders.

Missing a ton
Sir, A century has again eluded master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. However, it appears that the media and cricket fans are unduly perturbed by the situation. Sachin is already holding the world record for maximum number of One-day centuries. There are isolated similar examples in the world sports history. Sergei Bubka who won six consecutive World championships from 1983 to 1997 in pole vault and also beat the record a record number of 35 times could win only a single Olympic gold medal.

God’s work
Sir, On the entrance to the Vidhan Soudha, it is written that “Government work is God’s work.” So if Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa’s words are to be believed, it gives us a new hope that his rule will be clean and corruption at all government offices will be routed out. Also, our CM though not charismatic has proved to be very determined and mentally strong by winning the war with JD(S) albeit after a lot of tension given by them. Wishing him all success for the floor test on November 19.

Communism?
Sir, After witnessing the atrocities committed on the poor people in Nandigram, a communist ruled area, one wonders what is the difference between a capitalist ruled state and a communist ruled state? Bertrand Russell had answered it long before: “ In capitalist countries, man exploits man and in communist countries it is the other way around.”

Lessons to be learnt
Sir, Everyone should think about the facts in the article Lessons from a study (DH education Nov 15.). Mckinsey reports show how we are lagging behind in providing quality teaching. Our educational institutions are constructing big buildings rather than the future of our children. Parents are  donating lakhs and lakhs as building funds to admit their child in a prestigious institution right from the nursery. A teacher is more important than anything. So the institution should give more importance on appointing an able teacher than expanding its campus.
