Political will needed to save Kannada
DH News Service, Madhugiri:
Kannada was one of the most beautiful and comprehensive languages of India. But it was most unfortunate to note that due to lack of political will power, the language and its culture was deteriorating, expresses President of Kannada Pustaka Pradhikara S G Siddaramaiah

.
He was speaking at the at the valedictory ceremony of Gadinadu Sanskrutika Utsava, held at Malimariyappa Ranga Mandira at Madhugiri in Tumkur district. The event was organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture, Kannada Development Authority, district administration and Tumkur Zilla Panchayat, here on Saturday.
The Authorities barely had the power to develop languages in any state. However, it was all dependent on the political leaders to seek recognition and facilities right from seeking classical status to other benefits to the State.
Govt indifference

The neighbouring Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh states had the powers to shake the Central government, whereas, it was not the same with regards to Karnataka, he added.

He said, we should become more tolerant and peace-loving towards everybody. One should not give any scope for communal and political activities. It was most unfortunate to note that despite 50 years of Karnataka Eikarana, the problems in the border areas continue to persist. There are problems in the internal areas also.

Responsibility

Speaking on the occasion, MLC V S Ugrappa said, it was the duty and responsibility of each and everybody to safeguard, preserve and conserve the rich tradition, culture and folklore of Karnataka. Unless we were aware and enlightened about the our own issues of pride, there was no question of saving Kannada from deteriorating, he added.

President of the Taluk Panchayat Babanna presided over the function. President of the Taluk Journalists Association Bandi Chowdaiah also spoke. Executive Officer of the Taluk Panchayat Dr Shridharmurthy, Tahsildar V Prasanna, Assistant Director of Department of Kannada and Culture K Sudheendra, Chief Office of CMC Tusharamani, President of Kalaranga C S Krishnamurthy, KPCC member M G Shrinivasmurthy, APMC President P C Krishnareddy, CMC members Ganganna, M L Gangaraju, ZP member S D Krishnappa and others were present on the occasion.

Cultural programme

Assistant Executive Engineer of the Department of Public Works K V Ravishankar welcomed. K Shwethagowda compered the programme. Assistant Commissioner Anbukumar proposed a vote of thanks.

A dance-drama on “Karnataka Vaibhava” and “Shabari” were performed by the Prabhat Kalavidaru troupe from Bangalore. A dance-feature highlighting the rich tradition and culture of Karnataka by they children of Jupiter School of Madhugiri, was also present on the occasion. While, the dance-feature on Anna Hazare, performed by the Tumkur Rangaranga Havyasi Kalavrunda, was the main highlight of the event.
