As JD (S) is now a divided house, it would be interesting to see the voting pattern of “JD (S) MLAs” during the vote of confidence on Monday.
Split
The party won 58 seats in the 2004 elections.
Subsequently the party suffered a split when former deputy chief minister Siddaramaiah left the party with his eight supporters.
Later, he joined the Congress and his supporters formed a separate group.
Senior leader JD (S) P G R Sindhia dissociated himself from the party after the JD (S)-BJP coalition came into existence. He, along with party’s national leaders formed a separate group.
Recently JD (S) legislator Mahima Patel, who was also the Special Representative of Karnataka in Delhi, resigned both to the primary membership of party as well as MLA post, expressing his dissatisfaction over JD (S) refusal to hand over power to BJP as agreed.
If the vote of Speaker is also excluded, Kumaraswamy led JD (S) is now supported by 47 MLAs.
As three JD (U) and three independent MLAs are also supporting this group, the total strength of the body in the House is 53.
