A city advocate moved the High Court on Monday, seeking a prohibitory order against organising of any ceremonies in front of the Vidhana Soudha and extending them to Ambedkar Veedhi, while citing the inconvenience caused to the general public.
The PIL filed by advocate AV Amarnathan cited that when Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the State on Nov 12, 2007 at a ceremony held in front of Vidhana Soudha, general public and particularly advocates had to suffer great hardship. Owing to participation of several VIPs and party supporters across the state, terrible traffic jam occurred causing inconvenience at peak hours, it stated.
In anticipation
Anticipating that the second round of swearing in ceremony slotted to take place on Nov 22 might similarly cause inconvenience, the advocate sought a direction to State government and chief minister, prohibiting them from holding any such ceremonies in front of Vidhana Soudha.
When the matter was mentioned for preliminary hearing on Monday, the Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph sought the government advocate to state the reasons for organising such functions in front of Vidhana Soudha itself and adjourned the matter.
