BJP calls for Shikaripur bundh
Shimoga, DHNS:

Shikaripur, the constituency which B S Yeddyurappa represents in the State Assembly soaked in disappointment, on Monday evening, when their  leader tendered resignation to the Chief Minister’s post. Blaming the adamant stand of JD(S) pressurising the BJP to sign MoU as the reason for collapse of the coalition Government, taluk unit of BJP has called for Shikaripur bundh on Tuesday.

Mr Yeddyurappa began his political career in Shikaripur in 1965 as an activist of RSS. He became the President of Town Municipal Council in 1975. He was elected as MLA from Shikaripur constituency in 1983 and has so far represented the constituency 5 times. When Yeddyurappa became the Deputy Chief Minister of the State in 2006, Shikaripur evidenced unprecedented development works.

New government hospital, bus stand, mini Vidhana Soudha, degree college, fire station, three Morarji Desai schools were sanctioned for the taluk. Also canals of Anjanapura-Ambligolla reservoirs were concerted and roads in rural areas were asphalted. People of Shikaripur were elated when Mr Yeddyurappa was invited by the Governor to form the government. Over 10,000 people from the taluk thronged to the capital on November 12 for the swearing-in ceremony. However,  the collapse of the government has come as a rude shock for them.

BSY’S BIRTHPLACE UNTOUCHED
Mysore,DHNS: While B S Yeddyurappa turned ‘former’ Chief Minister from ‘current’ by tendering resignation after a day-long suspense, his home town Bookanakere remained largely untouched from the political drama happening in the capital. People sat discussing in groups, mostly in small gatherings.  A majority of them kept wondering why did the BJP, especially B S Yeddyurappa joined hands with the JD(S) in the first place. They were of the opinion that the BJP would have assumed power in the next elections if the party had not joined hands in a hurry with theJD(S) again after a mega showdown. In total the atmosphere in Bookanakere, the town which is the birthplace of BSY was not affected by the political developments that had led to the stepping down of its son.
