The BJP central leadership has chosen to describe backtracking by the JD(S) as “cheating of the worst kind”, which should “find place in the Guinness Book of World Records.”
Former BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu told Deccan Herald there is no question of compromising on the demands, which are “self-centred, connected to allocation of ministerial portfolios and other posts.”
The decision to put the foot down on demands was taken collectively by the top BJP leadership, including L K Advani, Rajnath Singh and Mr Naidu, with instructions issued to B S Yeddyurappa to quit.
Party vice-president and Karnataka-in-charge Yashwant Sinha, who was consulted, also agreed no flexibility should be shown on JD(S) president H D Deve Gowda’s “unreasonable demands.”
State BJP leaders are expected to reach here on Wednesday for consultations with the party president to chalk out the course of political agitation in the State.
He was asked if the Congress would fish in troubled waters. He replied that the Congress, with which the JD(S) chief was “hobnobbing”, could be expected to “do anything”.
The former BJP president ridiculed the demand for entering into an MoU. He asked, “Why did the idea of stamp paper not occur to the JD(S) president 20 months ago?” On the impact of political developments in the State, Naidu said “We have nothing to lose.”
