IBM unveils retail solution
IBM, on Tuesday, unveiled Store Integration Framework (SIF), a suite built specifically for the Indian retail sector. SIF is a middleware developed for retail that integrates all of retailer’s devices, applications and solutions to create responsive stores. The suite includes solutions such as the IBM Digital Video Surveillance (DVS); integrated multi-channel retailing solution and the IBM anyplace kiosks solution to help retailers boost their sales, increase management efficiencies, minimise losses and increase customer satisfaction, claimed IBM.
AMD CEO Ruiz to visit India
AMD on Tuesday announced that its Chairman and CEO Dr Hector de J Ruiz will visit India from November 28 to December 3, 2007. Dr Ruiz will meet key government officials, business leaders, academicians, industry associations and policy makers, said a company release. Dr Ruiz’s public engagements include the India Economic Summit being held in New Delhi where he will co-chair the event and discuss the opportunities and challenges that will shape India’s future growth environment.
Indra Nooyi on USIBC Board 8
The US-India Business Council (USIBC), on Tuesday, announced the appointment of PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra K Nooyi to its Board of Directors. The US-India Business Council is the premier business advocacy organisation representing 250 of the largest US companies investing in India and two dozen of India’s largest global companies. USIBC’s mandate is to strengthen US-India commercial ties, and its Board of Directors represents a spectrum of companies and industries.
Mformation to partner Airtel
Mformation Technologies Inc, on Tuesday, announced that Bharti Airtel will use Mformation’s technology as the core platform for enabling the seamless delivery of new data services and managing mobile devices of its more than 48 m mobile subscribers. Bharti Airtel will use Mformation service manager to configure, diagnose, update and manage advanced mobile devices through each phase of the lifecycle. Mformation’s platform will be critical to the launch of new mobile data services and applications such as instant messaging and device browsers, said the company.
L&T inks pact with Raytheon
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Tuesday inked a MoU with Raytheon Company for the medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) programme, aimed at developing superior defence technology for India’s military forces. This pact is a step towards establishing a strong working relationship, encouraging pursuit of emerging business opportunities, and providing for in country offset for the MRCA programme. The products cover a wide range including rocket and missile launchers, naval systems, radar systems, gun-upgrades, fire-control systems, and tank electronics among others.
3i Infotech’s expansion plans
3i Infotech, on Tuesday, announced in Chennai its expansion plans in the City. It will launch its first International Data Centre (IDC), which will offer managed hosting services for application and disaster recovery solutions.
As part of its strong foray in the $41.5 b managed services market, the company also launched its Remote IT Infrastructure Management Services through its Global Network and Security Operations Center (GNSOC). It is also setting up mini centres of excellence (COEs) for operating systems, databases, messaging solutions and IT security labs.
NIIT, OBC to offer loan to students
NIIT, on Tuesday, announced in New Delhi that it has joined hands with Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) to offer loan facilities to students joining NIIT courses.
As part of the agreement, OBC will provide financial assistance to NIIT students in the form of educational loans of up to Rs 1.24 lakhs per student enrolling for IT career programs of over one year duration, including the flagship GNIIT programme as well as the NIIT Edgeineers series. The loan also comes with a Free Personal Accident Insurance of upto Rs 15 lakhs from the Bank.
