Kiran Patel found dead

Kiran Patel, 39, son-in-law of Hanur legislator Parimala Nagappa, was found dead in mysterious circumstances at his Boopasandra, Sanjaynagar residence on Tuesday morning.


Kiran was married to the Janata Dal (Secular) MLA’s youngest daughter, Priyanka, for more than a decade. Besides Priyanka, he is survived by a five-year-old son.

According to family sources, Kiran attended a party near Bagalur with his close friends and returned home late on Monday night. On Tuesday morning, Priyanka tried to wake her husband up at around 10:15 am. When Kiran did not respond, she alerted his parents.

Kiran’s father has complained to the Sanjaynagar police and sought an inquiry into his son’s mysterious death.
The police sent the body for post-mortem to M S Ramaiah hospital. Body fluids and organ samples have been sent to FSL for further investigation.

According to sources, Kiran was into medical and surgical instruments business. Before this, Kiran, in partnership with friends Rajesh and Mahesh, was running a series of live band joints in the City.

Kiran was in news in August 2002 after forest brigand Veerappan kidnapped his father-in-law and former minister, Nagappa, from his farmhouse at Kamagere village on Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border. Kiran was in the forefront of efforts to secure his father-in-law’s release.After four months in captivity, Nagappa, was found dead in Chengady forests on December 8, 2002.
