CRIME BEAT
Goods worth Rs 1.5 cr seized, 9 held
Bangalore, DHNS:

CCB sleuths nabbed a nine-member gang involved in over a dozen dacoity cases and recovered valuables worth Rs 1.5 crore from them.

Manjunath R alias Boxer (49), M Shivanagendra alias Nagendra (21), R Diwakar alias Dhaka (19), Ahmed alias Viji (26), M Sanju alias Mange (23), Devaiah alias Don (29), Rajesh (20), Chettiyappa alias Manju (27) and Nagaraj (21).Prashanth, Rajesh, Chandra and Abdul Rahim absconded.

Five of them were cab drivers. Most of them were schoolmates and instigated by Abdul Rahim to take to crime, Joint Police Commissioner Gopal B Hosur told reporters on Wednesday.

Rahim is involved in four murders. The gang used to target those driving high-end model four-wheelers. They used the same vehicles to target victims. They had robbed many on the pretext of offering lift. After the Channapatna dacoity, CCB police, who were on high alert, managed to nab them near HAL when the gang was on the ‘prowl’.

Swami cons woman

Showing faith in a ‘Swami’ proved dear to a woman who became poorer by around Rs 1.5 lakh on Sunday.
A swami, identified as Ganesh Kulkarni, came to Meena Thankur’s house to free her family from the afflictions of malefic planets. The woman agreed to perform rituals, when her husband was not at home. Kulkarni with his companion began the rituals and asked Meena to keep all the ornaments in a piece of cloth. Later he asked her to go to offer prayer at a nearby temple.

When she returned from the temple, after half-an-hour, the Swamji and his accomplices had made away with the ornaments.

In her complaint she stated that this was not the first occasion when she met Ganesh Kulkarni. Around a year ago, the thug had come to her house when her brother-in-law, living in New Delhi, had come to her house. He had walked away with Rs 100 then and even took her brother-in-law’s Delhi address. Last year he had made attempts to deceive her but failed as the woman did not trust her.

Kulkarni even went to Delhi and met her brother-in-law but there he was driven out of the house. Yet he did not give up hopes and at last made away with the valuables of Meena Thakur.
