The two roads are quite old and many of the establishments were built before the town municipality and city municipality came into being. Therefore the roads as such are extremely narrow with absolutely no concept of a footpath and no parking.
It is very difficult for two way traffic to ply given the width of the road. It is possible to expand the road only if five feet of building are cleared from both sides. For now the stones on the underground drains have been pulled out which has created even more of a problem to the vehicles because the students have been left lying on the road.
Recently an elderly gentlemen slipped on of these stones and hurt himself. These covered drains atleast acted as footpaths, but now the dangers seems to have increased even more as the vehicles and pedestrians are forced to share the road.
According to the shop keepers in the area, the development activity has created more problems than solving anything for them. While people are happy that the illegal encroachments are being cleared, the families that depend on them are devastated about decision. Many of the public property have also been damaged during the entire operation including telephone poles and drinking water connections.
Thousands of telephones have been disconnected and it will take about a week for BSNL to get them working again, according to sources.
