When his reaction was sought on Monday on the possibility, Mr Kharge shot back - “Where is the question of forming the government when the the Union Cabinet has recommended for dissolution of the Assembly and President’s rule has already been imposed?”.
He replied as “hypothetical” to a query whether his party would hold consultations with JD (S) Supremo H D Deve Gowda on the formation of government.
“There is no move to talk to Gowda and the high command has also not consulted us on the issue. We have decided to go to the people because we firmly believe that no stable government can be provided with this hotch-potch arrangement. Let the people decide on our fate”, he added.
Present crisis
Mr Kharge squarely blamed both BJP and JD (S) for the present crisis in the State. Recalling the political developments since October 2, Mr Kharge remarked that both parties had conducted the affairs of state as “child’s play”.
The Congress would resume the “ Jana Jaagruthi Yaatre” either in the last week of November or first week of December to educate the public on the misdeeds of both BJP and JD (S). “In the first phase we want to cover the district head quarters and in the second phase, we want to visit taluk centres also”, Mr Kharge added.
When his attention was drawn to the decisions taken by the first Cabinet of Yeddyurappa led government, Mr Kharge strongly flayed the former chief minister for taking the decisions without enjoying majority in the Assembly.
“Technically Cabinet was there, but it did not have a sanctity as there was no representation from JD (S)”.
The Congress leader said they would make a representation to the Governor to scrap the decisions taken by the Cabinet.
Besmirching
Leader of the Opposition in the Council H K Patil has attacked the BJP-JD (S) combine for ‘besmirching’ the fair name of Karnataka. “The State is known well for democratic values and also principles. But these parties have conducted themselves in a shameful manner”, he remarked.
Senior Congress Leader Siddaramaiah welcomed the decision of Union Cabinet saying it had no other go but to recommend for the dissolution. “The dissolution should have been done earlier itself. We are prepared to face the elections”, he observed.
Another senior Congress leader R V Deshpande said, their apprehensions that BJP-JD (S) combine would not provide a stable government had come true. “We knew very well that these parties would fight among themselves and plunge the State into a state of instability”, he remarked.
