Central Rule May Be Extended
New Delhi, Nov. 1.

The Union Cabinet is understood to have today decided to get Article 356 of the Constitution amended to enhance the period for President’s rule in a State from the present one to three years.

It is proposed to get the amending Bill passed in Parliament’s current session which ends on
November 5.

The decision has been prompted mainly by the stalemate in the negotiations between the government and the Assam agitation  leaders on the foreign nationals issue.
