There is no perfect man, no perfect boss and no perfect job,” declares Advaita Kala, who maiden novel called, ‘Almost Single’ was launched in Bangalore recently. Wickedly irreverent and funny, the book is a romp through five-star world of champagne brunches, gay soirees an the dilemmas of hip young girls on the lookout for love and matrimony.
Single life
The protagonist of the novel is Aisha Bhatia, twenty-nine years old and single. She works as the guest relations manager at the Grand Orchid Hotel. She dines at luxury hotels and stays in five-stars during her travels; she can name old and new wines with great elan, and can tell her cheeses apart. She tolerates her job, hates her boss, and bonds big time with her friends, while routinely suffering from umbilical cord whiplash.
Partly autobiographical
“The book is partly autobiographical. For instance the book is set in a hotel and I also work in a hotel. It is a story not often told about experiencing and seeing life, lot of new relationships and women taking a longer time to settle down. Traditionally, a single woman of a certain age is seen as a sad creature,” says Kala in a chat with Metrolife.
Chicklet genre
“It is not a Mills & Boons kind of romance”, explains Kala, “Mills & Boons are basically simple stories and they do subscribe to a formula. The charm of Mills & Boons will continue to remain. My book has been compared to Bridget Jones Diary. It is also compared to Chicklet (a booming new genre of books for girls)”, she adds.
