Malinga vows to be aggressive
Sri Lankan pace spearhead Lasith Malinga has vowed to go after the Australian batsmen in their forthcoming two-Test series.

Malinga is to make his first tour appearance in the three-day match against Queensland at Allan Border field starting Friday.

“All fast bowlers like to do the bouncer and everything. I am the same. We are going to be very attacking,” he said.

BSF hoopsters edge Orissa
BSF defeated Orissa 73-68 points in the men’s section of the Federation Cup basketball championship in Rourkela on Wednesday, reports PTI.

In another match, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) defeated Punjab State Electricity Board 60-30.
In the women’s section, Southern Railway beat Orissa 62-47 while Delhi beat Maharashtra 71-14.

Randhawa in joint 12th place
India’s Jyoti Randhawa shot a two-over-par 73 card to share the 12th spot after the opening round of the Volvo Masters, reports agencies from Sotogrande, Spain.

His countryman Jeev Milha Singh, with a 76, was tied 34th. Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell was atop the leaderboard with a three-under-par 68 card.

Mann, Chowrasia in tied 11th spot
India’s Gurbaaz Mann and SSP Chowrasia carded one-under-par 70 each to be tied 11th with 11 others after the opening day’s play which was stopped early due to bad light at the Barclay’s Singapore Open at Sentosa Golf Club on Thursday, reports PTI.

Among other Indians in the fray, Gaurav Ghei was tied 39th after shooting one-over par 72 while Shiv Kapur and Gaganjeet Bhullar were joint 53rd with identical 73s.

Asian Tour regulars Jin Park of the US and Australians Kane Webber and Gavin Flint fired excellent scores of five-under 66s to share the lead.

Nigerian Eagles in last four stage
Nigerian Eagles entered the semifinal of the 29th All India Governor’s Gold Cup by handing a 2-1 defeat to BJS, Bangladesh, at Paljor Stadium on Thursday, reports UNI from Gangtok.

Freeman Egbum gave an early lead to Eagles in the third minute. The Bangladesh team restored parity in the 65th minute through Liton.

However, Eagles had the last laugh when Ikechukwu Penn’s cross was tapped into the net by Nkenchor Ifeanyi in the 75th minute.

In an earlier match, NRT Nepal sailed into the last 16 with a 2-1 victory over JCT Academy, which is based in Phagwara.

The match ended in 1-1 draw till the stipulated 90 minutes extending the game to extra-time.

Camp stays at Eden Gardens
The two-day camp for the Indian one-day team will be held as per schedule at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens from Friday, reports PTI from Mumbai.

“There is no shift in the camp venue. It will be held at Kolkata,” said Cricket Board’s Chief Administrative Officer Prof Ratnakar Shetty on Thursday.

There was some doubt about the holding of the camp in Kolkata because of the unseasonal rains that the metropolis was receiving over the last couple of days.
