Abusive words, chaos mark ZP meet
DH News Service, Chikmagalur:

Abusive words, fist fight and chaos painted a perfect picture at the general meeting held at Zilla Panchayat hall on Wednesday.

The meeting was convened under the presidentship of ZP President Chandramma Manjunath to discuss about the development of rural roads and to receive consent on Chief Minister Gramina Rasthe Yojane and 12th Finance Action Plan.

The protocol of the meeting was to get consent for the said two plans and then to get consent on the selection of presidents for various standing committee. This issue was objected by ZP member B L Sandeep who demanded for the list of standing committee presidents and said, “We will give our consent if possible or else call for an election.”

President adjourned the meet for half an hour. Even after the adjournment, the Vice-President Antony continued to talk over the mike, seeing which former president Belli Prakash gestured to the Mr Antony to stop his as the meeting was already adjourned.

Raged by this, Mr Antony walked to Mr Prakash and said to him that he was not the marshal in the house to order them. This fuelled a verbal battle between the two, which soon turned into a bitter fist fight coupled with slanderous and abusive statements. Timely intervention of H M Sathish, Bhagavan and K M Kemparaju brought the situation under control.

Earlier at the discussion on CM Gramina Rasthe and 12th Finance Action Plan, the members raised objections on package tenders. Mr H M Sathish said that the members have been against the package tender right from the beginning and the plans will not be approved if complete information is not given about the plans.
Responding to this, Chief Executive Officer Sunder Nayak said that the Government has not specified any stipulated amount for a specific project.

Accordingly, after the house approved the plan it was decided to allot the sum of Rs 1652.11 lakh talukwise for the development of roads for the year 2007-08 under the two projects.
