The Parisarasaktara Okkuta has warned that the Mullayyanagiri and Bababudangiri roads are being widened unscientifically, which may lead to landslides.
The work of widening the road upto 10 feet with the help of huge equipment is progressing in full force. In the process, trees, shrubs, Shola forests and grasslands are being destroyed, they complained.
Since the soil has loosened with trees being cut, there are possibilities of landslides occurring in the rainy season.
Such examples already exist, they expressed fear. It is unfortunate that ecologically sensitive areas are being destroyed instead of preserving them. They demanded the Deputy Commissioner to immediately stop the destruction, stated a press release.
