MATTERS OF HEART
MKN

Master of many arts

The multitalented doctor, Dr S Shetty is a man of precision. He is an author, surgeon, physician and a scholar all coaxed into one. Earning his medical credentials in the USA he practiced medicine in UK, Canada and USA before returning back to his hometown in 2000.

Dr S Shetty, aged 67 has been practicing medicine for the past 40 years. He is a cardiologist and Chest Physician-Asthma-New York, USA . He is the only doctor in Karnataka who is licensed to practice medicine in USA. He is a doctor with Indian, British and American post graduate qualification in medicine.

In 1970, he wrote a book called “Hindu boyhood” which was published in New York. The book focuses primarily on the caste system and cultural practices prevailing in India. It enables the American people to get a glimpse about the upbringing of a Hindu boy rooted to the practices of his culture. The books also presents the beauty of the bullock race on the muddy ground, eating on customary banana leaf sitting on the floor, chewing paan and the like that are typically culture based. His book has no connection to his field of study. When asked why he wrote this book he said,“I love books and I write about what I love and can connect myself with and it took me  nearly a year to complete this book”.

On his journey back to Bangalore he said, “ask not what a country can do for you, but ask what you can do for the country. I returned back to India to serve my motherland. I provide free treatment for the poor and needy as I believe that a doctor can cure a disease with the help of service-oriented treatment, mercy and compassion”.
