Today accessories form an integral part of every girl’s wardrobe, for no look is complete without the bling of trinkets. And what would one do if an accessory store, rated as one of the best in India according to fashion bibles, comes to town with it’s kitty! Kick off this winter with a seasoned collection of jewellery and accessories from Mumbai-based store ‘Curio Cottage’. Popular with top-notch models and actresses, the label is showcasing their autumn-winter collection at a two-day exhibition, organised for the first time in Bangalore.
From dazzling earrings, cocktail rings, chunky bracelets, trendy lariats, bejewelled belts to evil-eye talismans - an array of accessories will be on display. All in sterling-silver, the jewellery is predominantly contemporary in construction, accompanied by some classic vintage pieces. The entirely handcrafted collection uses semi-precious stones like cubic zirconia, pearls, diamantes, emeralds and rubies, sourced from across the world - Afghanistan, Europe, Turkey to even Hyderabad.
But is the gold-driven Bangalore city ready for silver accessories? Explains Anand Bathija, owner of Curio Cottage,
“Bangalore is a fantastic market today with a contemporary mindset. It has a huge youth population. Bangalore was not like this ten years ago, when jewellery meant gold in the form of investment. Today it comprises of globe trotters, who often visit Europe and see how people accessorise their clothes beautifully with trinkets. This exhibition is a test for me. If successful, I will surely look at a shop-in-shop in a luxury boutique here.”
Each piece of jewellery is designed by Anand and assembled at the 40-year-old ‘Curio Cottage’, regularly visited by celebrities like Simone Singh and Carol Gracias. So what should one be adorning this season? “Hoops have made a huge comeback. Lariats or wrap-neckpieces are a must buy too. Again chunky broad bangles are a must have accessory. Along with gold-plated jewellery, fusion jewellery has also gained popularity. For instance, wood and silver used together on a bangle. India is quite high on accessories. I believe India makes the best silver jewellery and fortunately has the best yet cheapest labour,” says Anand.
The jewellery exhibition has been organised at The Rain Tree, opposite ITC Windsor Sheraton, on November 23 and 24 from 11 am to 7 pm.
