The BJP is expecting “large scale desertions” from JD(S) ranks with “the reputation” of party president H D Deve Gowda and his family “hitting a rock bottom.”
Party vice-president Yashwant Sinha told Deccan Herald that the party would try to occupy the “political space vacated” by the JD(S). He added that it had “already lost” its “credibility in the eyes of the people of Karnataka.”
Mr Sinha said he was personally not in favour of having any truck with the JD (S) after it “cheated us” in the beginning of October. “We do not have to rescue them,” he said.
The party leader said he could not do anything then as at that point of time, he was not in the country.
The BJP leader in-charge of Karnataka said things had moved far ahead and “settled” in the State by the time he returned.
When queried whether he expected desertions from the JD(S), he said there would be “large scale desertions.”
Gowda responsible
When asked whether the party would welcome JD(S) MLAs, Sinha said, “That we will see.”
The BJP leader claimed that the doings of Mr Gowda had “ruined” the JD(S) with simmering discontent with him within and outside the party.
He added, “People are waiting to ditch that party.” He laughed at Gowda’s claim that it was the BJP which created the precedent of asking for an MoU.
Sinha said he would visit Bangalore to attend the two-day state executive meet after conclusion of the district executive meetings.
