Tamil Nadu’s J Mohit Mayur made it to the semifinals of both the under-16 and under-14 singles categories with contrasting victories in his quarterfinal encounters in the Good Earth AITA Super Series tournament here at the KSLTA Courts on Wednesday.

The formidable TN lad had little difficulty in vanquishing Arjun Kade of Maharashtra in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 en route his under-14 semifinal berth. But in the under-16 category, he was run close by Karnataka’s Rashein Samuel before advancing with a gruelling 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 win.

An otherwise disappointing day for the Karnataka players was enlivened by the efforts of Nimisha Mohan and Rachita Sarda, who entered the under-16 singles semifinals with facile wins.

Nimisha, the top seed, got the better of Sowjanya B of Andhra Pradesh in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 while Rachita had an even easier outing against State-mate Padmapriya, emerging a 6-1, 6-1 victor.
