The Indian hockey team, which won the 7th Asia Cup tournament in Chennai in August-September, was felicitated by the State Bank of India here on Wednesday with a cash award of Rs one crore.
Each player of the 18-man squad, the chief coach and manager will get Rs five lakh for the win.
The cheque was presented by O P Bhatt, Chairman, State Bank Group, to Indian Hockey Federation secretary general K Jothikumaran and the players.
Bhatt said: "Our national hockey team has done the country proud by lifting the Asia Cup with a convincing win.
“Our players have shown great determination, exemplary teamwork and utmost dedication to the game. We salute their achievement with a small gift from the State Bank family.
“The entire staff of the State Bank Group joins me in extending warm wishes to each member of the team. We sincerely hope that the team consistently replicates this success on the world stage."
Jothikumaran also spoke on the occasion and said: “On behalf of the members of the IHF, the players and hockey lovers, we whole-heartedly thank State Bank of India for the gracious gesture of announcing cash awards to the players and officials of the National team in appreciation of their win in the Asia Cup.”
