SAI emerge U-20 champions

 Sport Authority of India (Bangalore) won the overall championship in the under-20 category at the 23rd State Junior athletic meet here on Wednesday.

Mysore won the championship in the under-14 category. Shimoga and Dakshina Kannada districts won the team championships in the under-16 and under-18 categories respectively.

Devappa (DYSS, Vidyanagar,1538 pts) and Amulya (Rai Athletic Club, 1744 pts) won the individual championships in the under-14 boys’ and girls’ categories respectively. Sumanth MK (Tumkur) and Nandini C (Young Stars Sports Club) were declared individual champions in U-16, while in U-18, Vinay GK (Alvas, Mangalore) and Vanitha Rathod (SAI, Dharwad) emerged champions. Arun Kumar (Alva’s, Mangalore) and Mangala S Diksangi (SAI, Mangalore) won the individual championship in the under-20 category.

The last day saw two new meet records being set by Vanitha Rathod, who bettered her own record by 3.86 metres to set a new record in the girls’ under-18 hammer throw (42.89M).

In girls U-16 3000-metre walk, Chaitra HD (SAI, Adichunchanagiri) set a new meet record with a time of 17:51.5, beating the previous record of 18:28.9 set by Reshma D Shetty in 1997.
