The five Electricity Supply Companies of the state have moved the High Court against Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission(KERC)’s new Regulations reducing the Security Deposit amount that can be collected from consumers.
A writ petition filed by BESCOM, MESCOM, HESCOM, GESCOM and CHESCOM has sought the Court to quash the KERC (Security Deposits) Regulations, 2007 notified on October 1, 2007. The Regulations have prescribed collection of two months electricity charges as Security Deposit from consumers, in stead of the existing provision to collect three months electricity charges, it has said.
The ESCOMS have also sought interim orders permitting them to continue with existing three Months Minimum Deposit collection and a stay against refund of the any such deposits held from existing consumers, pending disposal of their petition.
The petition was adjourned to Nov 26, for preliminary hearing.
