It is sulking time for JD (S) MLAs. This includes even former CM Kumaraswamy as well as his coterie.
The MLAs, who had once identified themselves with Kumaraswamy, are even hesitating to return to their respective constituencies because they are not sure how their party workers and voters will react to them.
The general feeling among the MLAs is that they have been cheated by Kumaraswamy. Many of them are seriously thinking as to whether they have to continue their close association with their Kumaranna or not, according to party insiders.
Like other MLAs, these legislators -- around 10 of them who stood by Kumaraswamy through thick and thin -- too are upset and concerned about their political future. “We believed that he (Kumaraswamy) would not let us down. We had time and again told him that MLAs cannot face people if the party ditches the BJP. But, more than the BJP, Kumaraswamy cheated us by standing by his father Deve Gowda’s decision to withdraw the support,” one of MLAs, told Deccan Herald, on condition of anonymity.
Despite being deeply disgruntled, they have decided not to rebel at this juncture. “We know everything is over now. The Assembly will be dissolved any moment. So there’s enough time for us to decide... but the truth is that not even workers in the constituency like our party, Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy,” MLAs confided.
According to the disgruntled legislators, the effect of father-son’s betrayal game on B S Yeddyurappa on the day of trust vote, is worse than their October 3 decision not to transfer power to the saffron party. “This time around not only people, even our family members are angry with us. We have become a laughing stock,” they rue.
Those who are okay with the party’s decision to ditch the BJP are H D Revanna, Kumaraswamy, their father Gowda, and one or two Hassan MLAs who are loyal to the core to Gowda, they said.
Sources said Kumaraswamy, on his part, is trying hard to project himself as ‘different’ from his family members and trying to persuade the angry MLAs. He, therefore, hinted that he is ready to come out of Gowda’s clutches by floating a new party. But the MLAs, who know that father and his sons are always one, are not ready to buy his argument, sources added.
“We will wait and watch what the father-son duo has to say in coming days and what strategy to put forth to wipe out blame we have earned. We will take an appropriate decision at an appropriate time,” they
revealed.
