Former Prime Minister H D Devegowda
today asserted that the only way out in the current political
scenario of Karnataka is to hold early elections to Assembly.
Mr Devegowda described as ''futile and
shameless'' any effort on part of the Janata Dal (S) to seek support
of the Congress to form another government in the State for the
remaining 19 month-term of the Assembly.
Denying outright reports that he had written a letter to
Congress President Sonia Gandhi seeking support from the Congress
for forming of a government in Karnataka, he said any such exercise
would be a futile one as the Presidential proclamation on the
Central rule in the State was now before the Parliament.
''In fact I have already welcomed the move of the Centre to
dissolve the Assembly and where is the need for me to approach the
Congress'' he said denying the rumours.
He said the JD(S) had already started preparations for the
elections. He declined to comment when asked for his reaction about
a section of JD(S) legislators seeking former Minister M P Prakash
to take the lead in approaching the Congress. ''I read the report in
newspapers and I have nothing to say'' he added.
The State was brought under President's rule for the second time
in less than a month on November 20 following the resignation of
week-long BJP led Yeddyurappa government in the wake of the JD(S)
declaring that it would not support the trust vote of Mr Yeddyurappa.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Legislataive
Assembly N Dharam Singh said that it was impossible to form the new
government with the help of JD (S) and it is a closed chapter.
