This will be possible thanks to the new initiatives of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) planned from next month.
The BSNL will launch four new SMS ‘location-based services’-- find your buddy, fleet management service, advertisement service and chatting.
The services will enable subscribers to keep track of friends, logistics, send bulk advertisement messages and also chat. “Under the fleet management service, a subscriber (a logistics company) can keep track of the movement of all his trucks deployed in a location. Under the advertisement services advertisers can send advertisements in a limited area, while under the track your buddy and chatting services, the subscriber can keep track of his friends and chat with fellow subscribers, respectively,” BSNL, General Manager (Mobile), R Mani told reporters on Thursday.
To avail of these services, the subscriber will have to make a list of friends, mobile numbers etc., and tag them as a group. The scheme is in its final stage of testing and will be available to subscribers soon at the latest by December.
