There is an immediate need to create awareness among rural people about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene, said Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Narasachikkanarasimhiah.
Inaugurating the NSS special camp at Chennakeshavapura, organised by Pavagada Government Junior College, Mr Narasachikkanarasimhiah said to cleanliness is the first step towards maintaining good health. However, there is ignorance among rural people about health and hugiene. It is not an easy task to make rural people implement cleanliness and hygiene in their day today life.
Creating awareness
“There are certain age-old unhygienic practices followed by rural people and it is difficult to eliminate them by conducting awareness camps only once in a while. Creating awareness has to be a continuous process and not a one day affair,” he maintained.
He called upon NSS students to strive in this direction. Since the government has given top priority to cleanliness of villages this year, the same should to be taken up at the NSS camp as the main plan of action, he added.
Taluk Panchayat member D V Gopalappa said the youth today need able guidance by the elders and teachers to walk on the right path of life.
College Principle Jayadevappa called upon the students to make the camp a good learning experience. Camp Officer Patalingappa, Suma Ananda Rao, Gram Panchayat President Chikkavva were present on the occasion.
