The Academic Staff College and Centre for Women Studies at Bangalore University jointly organised a refresher course in Women Studies on the University campus for the benefit of college and university teachers. T
The programme was inaugurated by Gayathri Devi Dutt, Director of Regional Institute of English, Bangalore. In her speech, she explained how Women Studies can play a transformation role in gender construction of the society. The function was presided over by Padma Bhushan Dr Devaki Jain. Sudhesh Mukerjee welcomed the gathering, Dr CD Venkatesh proposed vote of thanks.
Mini convocation
Visveswapura College of Science and its Alumni Association has recently conducted a Mini Convocation and Felicitation programme at the college auditorium.
The convocation address was delivered by AJ Sadashiva, the former judge of High Court of Karnataka. In the address he stressed the importance of education in moulding the character of students. He also honoured Dr PN Narase Gowda, a meritorious teacher of the college. Mr Narase Gouda, who has received NCERT Best Vocation Teacher Award for the state of Karnataka, is a lecture in Biotechnology. College principal Prof B Sujatha presided over the function, Dr Gangadhar, Prof and Head, Biotechnology department, welcomed the audience. Prof VG Bhageeratha, HOD of Physics and president of Alumni Association proposed vote of thanks.
Theatre festival
The second edition of National Law School of India University (NLSIU) theatre festival Admit One 2007 concluded on Nov 21. The third day saw the outstanding performances of teams from Chennai, New Delhi and Lahore. The festival was held at Alliance Francaise from November 19 to 21.
The award list: Best Actor Female - Rinila Ramesh MCC; Best Actor Male - Siddharth MSRIT; Best Director - Ranjitha J MCC; Best Play - LSR, Runners-up - MSRIT; Best Original Script and Excellent Production - UET, Lahore. Chief Guest for the closing ceremony was Arundathi Nag of Rangashankara.
