Basu suffers rib fracture
Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) patriarch and former West Bengal chief minister Jyoti Basu sustained a rib fracture after he fell in the bathroom of his Salt Lake residence early on Wednesday, IANS reports from Kolkata.

“Jyoti Basu has sustained a rib fracture on the right side of his chest after falling in the bathroom. He has been advised complete bed rest by the doctors,” said Basu’s personal assistance Joy Krishna Ghosh.
He said the 93-year-old leader was under medical observation at his residence under Bidhannagar Hospital’s orthopaedic department and his personal physician A K Maity.

44 injured in train accident
At least forty Railway employees traveling by Bharatdarsan Special train were seriously injured when up TATA Passenger from Howrah rammed into it on Thursday night near Shyamchawk station.

Two compartments were derailed due to the accident, Mr Ranjan Tewari, DRM, Khargpur said, reports UNI from Khargpur.

The Bharatdarsan Special was standing between Shyamchak and Jakpur stations due to signal failures.
