"It swings a bit in the morning in Delhi. The best part was that we bowled in the right areas. There was some moisture in the morning and I don't think it will not be there in the coming days. But taking eight wickets on the first day was an amazing performance," Ganguly said.
The former skipper had a word of praise for new captain Anil Kumble, who had a largely good first day in office. "He was fantastic on his first day at office. Even when he was not the captain, he was giving inputs. It could have been a better day for him.
“To be honest, there has to be at least one partnership in Test cricket, and here it happened for the ninth wicket. We have to maintain our discipline over the next four days as there is a lot of cricket left in this Test. But we are still well placed on day one," he explained.
On Kumble's special connection with Ferozeshah Kotla, Ganguly said, "There are many other grounds in the world where he has performed too. Obviously, he has got a fine record here. There are some grounds which are favourites for some players, and I am sure Kotla is his."
Ganguly singled out the performance of pace bowler Munaf Patel. "Munaf bowled well in his comeback. It is not easy when you come back. He was out for some time and there was a lot of talk about his fitness and attitude. I felt it was very harsh on him. He has comeback well."
Since the time Yuvraj Singh has been doing well, Ganguly's sport was perceived to be under threat. But the Kolkatan said he was not under any pressure. "It has not created any pressure on me, and if you check the records for the last 10-12 months, I am one of the best batsmen. Yuvraj has done well, and it is good for him that he is pushing for a place in the Test side."
Ganguly said he had enjoyed his spell with the ball. "There was a bit of movement, especially in the hour after the lunch. I enjoy my bowling because there is no pressure. But all credit to Sami and Misbah for the way they batted. The wicket has also eased out a bit, and there was not much help for the spinners."
