Ankita in final
DH News Service, Bangalore:

Gujarat's Ankita Raina overcame top-seeded Nimisha Mohan in the semifinals of the girls' under-16 section of the Good Earth Super Series junior tennis tournament at the KSLTA courts here on Thursday.

Ankita, winner of two titles in the three legs so far, scored a hard-fought 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over the local girl. In the final, Ankita will take on second-seeded Sharon Paul, a 7-5, 6-1 victor over another Karnataka girl, Rachita Sarda.

After taking the opening set, Nimisha lost the plot thereafter. The Gujarat lass tightened her game by keeping the errors to a minimum to clinch the second set. In the decider, Ankita, winner of the under-16 title in Hyderabad, just blew her opponent away.

Ankita gave herself a psychological edge by defeating Sharon in the U-14 semifinal to put herself on course for a double.

In the corresponding age group in the boys’ section, Digvijay Singh will take on Ronit Bisht in the title clash. Digviyay overcame Mohit Mayur in a three-set thriller, while Bisht got the better of SV Abhishek, also in three tough sets.
