JD(S) MLAs, who fear public backlash if they go to polls at this juncture were pinning their hopes on Gowda. He had assured them that he would work on an alternative to the BJP, while issuing the whip to them to vote against B S Yeddyurappa government on November 19, according to the party sources. He told the legislators that the good governance given by the party in the last 40 months will help them to win elections.
Speaking to reporters in Bangalore, Gowda, described any effort on part of the JD(S) MLAs to seek support of the Congress, to form another government in the State for the remaining 19 month-term as “futile and shameless.” He further said, “The question of a tie-up with the Congress does not arise as the Union Cabinet has already recommended dissolution of the Assembly.”
He alleged that the Congress was trying to weaken the JD(S) by trying to hold talks with senior leader M P Prakash on government formation. He flatly denied speculation that he had written a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi seeking support for government formation.
The party insiders, however, confirmed that a draft letter proposing formation of secular government was kept ready to be faxed to Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister Shivaraj Patil.
He had also proposed that Prakash be made the CM , sources said.
