Over 50 schools participated in ‘My School Rocks’, an all-India inter-school competition held at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall recently. Bangalore was among the eight cities to host the competition. The performances will be reviewed by celebrity choreographer Shiamak Davar.
The competition, inspired from Disney Channel’s original movie ‘High School Musical 2’, saw children in the age group of eight to 17 dancing to the Hindi soundtrack composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The performances at Bangalore will be pitted against schools from seven other cities that include Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Kolkata.
One team will be selected from each city and the recorded performances of the eight semi-finalists will be aired on the channel on the same day as the premiere of the movie in early December.
The final winner will be selected on the basis of audience votes as well as Shiamak’s points and the team will be part of a music video choreographed by Shiamak Davar.
“This platform offers kids a unique nationwide opportunity to express themselves and celebrate teamwork. With the second edition of the competition, we are eager to see the participants demonstrate their passion for dance and music,” said Antoine Villeneuve, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Walt Disney Television International (India).
The event was concluded with a short workshop conducted by Shiamak Davar’s Institute of Performing Arts.
