ITI down fancied KSP
DH News Service, Bangalore:

State ‘A’ Division champions Karnataka State Police suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Indian Telephone Industries in a Super League encounter in the State Association Cup volleyball tie at the Sree Kanteerava outdoor courts here on Friday.

The 19-25, 25-21, 25-19, 20-25, 15-8 victory was sweet revenge for the Telephonemen after having lost to the same opponents in the group phase.

In a match that lasted a little under 80 minutes, KSP won the first set 25-19 with spiker Sanoj at his best. However, the Telephonemen for whom Mahanth, Laxmikanth and Suresh excelled drew level in the second before going on to take a 2-1 lead.

Though KSP pulled one back, they couldn't hold their nerve in the decider which they lost 8-15.

MEG win
Earlier in the day, Madras Engineer Group and Centre overcame initial blues to defeat ‘A’ Division runners-up Controllerate of Inspection Electronics in yet another long drawn out battle. The Sappers lost the first set 23-25 before drawing level in the second.

Premjith and Ajish did the bulk of the work for the Sappers. With Karthik and Chandrasekhar finding their rhythm, CIL took the third set before going down in the fourth. Sappers held their cool in the decider to close the contest in 94 minutes.

Results (Super League): MEG bt CIL 23-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 15-9; ITI bt KSP 19-25, 25-21, 25-19, 20-25, 15-8.
