Umar Gul, the injured Pakistani paceman, will know whether he will stay on in India or return home in the next couple of days after an assessment of his back injury by the Pakistan Cricket Board’s medical commission. The MRI report of his injury has been sent to Lahore for its opinion.

Ricky Ponting, the Australian cricket captain, has decided to hand over the captaincy of Tasmania to his deputy, Daniel Marsh. Marsh led Tasmania to the Pura Cup final last season as Ponting was captaining the country at the World Cup. Ponting will play under Marsh in a one-day game on Sunday.
