These leaders are said to have urged KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge to pressurise the high command to give top priority for reorganising the state unit of Congress which is pending for a long time as the elections to the State Assembly are round the corner.
The meeting, chaired by Mr Kharge, was attended by N Dharam Singh, H K Patil, Siddaramaiah, C K Jaffer Sharief, Dr G Parameshwara and others. Senior Congress leader C K Jaffer Sharief’s speech highlighting the lacunas in the state unit of Congress is said to have upset Mr Kharge. When Mr Kharge spoke after Sharief left the meeting to participate in the prayer, he is said to have remarked “some leaders have the habit of making only speeches, but they don’t stay back to listen to the replies”.
Committee
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Dr Parameshwara, who is also Central Working Committee member, indicated that the party high command would very soon pay attention for constituting KPCC’s Executive as well as office-bearers Committee.
To a query regarding the formation of a government, Dr Parameshwar observed that as the issue of dissolution of the State Assembly was pending before both Houses of Parliament, the ratification was a mere formality that had to be completed now. He ruled out the possibility of forming government.
Mr Kharge told reporters that Congress has decided to re-launch it’s “Jana Jaagruthi” programme, which it stopped after the B S Yeddyurappa-led government came to power, either on December 6 or 7 from Chitradurga to create awareness about the misdeeds of both BJP and JD(S).
The rally would be preceded by one-day workshop for legislators, MPs, district presidents and block presidents at Bangalore on December 1 or 2.
Mr Kharge said they had decided to enroll at least 5,000 members in each block.
