The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, in association with international research network SMI (Supply Management Institute), will organise the ‘India Sourcing Summit-2008’, a conference on India-related sourcing and supply management.
With the theme ‘India as emerging hub for global sourcing’, ISS-2008 will be held in the City on February 8 and 9, 2008.
Speaking to reporters, on Friday, after the first meeting of the conference advisory board, Conference Secretary Dr Constantin Blome said ISS 2008 will not be a trade fair but a knowledge event, in which around 150 managers will speak and discuss on the existing scenario of supply sourcing in India. The conference is tipped to showcase India’s potential as a sourcing hub across industries, including ITES, R&D, automotive and pharmaceutical.
Corporate leaders, including top CEOs and COOs, from home and abroad are expected to participate.
The board members said the conference is timely as India is emerging as a top sourcing market, with companies including Volvo, Wal-Mart and Nissan sourcing substantially from the country.
Infrastructure issues, however, are acting as a hurdle and need to be addressed, they said.
IIM-B runs a Supply Chain Management Centre in association with corporate partners as well as an EADS-SMI chair on Sourcing and Supply Management.
