BBMP has proposed to slap a fine of Rs 5 lakh on owner of a building, popularly known as Kannan building located in MG Road on charges of damaging the sidewalk.
A notice addressed to V K Surendra, in whose name the building plan has been issued, has been pasted on the wall of the building. Palike assistant executive engineer (Richmond Town) Jagadeesh, the officer who served the notice said “the building owner has damaged footpath in front of his building. MG Road footpath is one of the busiest sidewalks. The owner should have set up barricades”, he alleged. If the owner fails to meet the minimum requirements while demolishing the building, the Revenue department of the Palike will collect fine.
Kannan building, one of the oldest buildings of the MG Road, is being renovated. The old tenants of the building GK Vale, Lawrence and Mayo, the Lake View Milk Bar and Jamals have shifted to new places. A commercial complex will come up in the place.
