Raman International Institute of Information Technology, claimed to be India’s first IT finishing school, has in a span of just five months of its existence has created waves across the country, M N Vidyashankar, Secretary to the Department of Information Technology and bio-technology (BT), told a press meet prior to the inauguration of the institute’s state-of-the-art campus in the city on Saturday.
Officials of the Central government, including those of the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), besides those of Directorate of Education, Chandigarh, are enquiring about RiiiT’s success story, and are keen on adopting the finishing school model seen in Karnataka, he said.
“Such finishing schools help meet the industry requirement of skilled software professionals, and the efforts are appreciated by organisations like STPI and Nasscom. In short, they will prepare youngsters to global standards.
Syndicate Bank has pitched in by offering financial support to students as well as the institute. RiiiT’s first batch of students are already slated for the placement programme next week. It is looking to establish a second five-acre campus in Hebbal Industrial Area.
The finishing school aims to rope in students from schools and colleges, besides looking to Corporates that want to get ‘made-to-order’ professionals. RiiiT founder and CEO, S V Venkatesh, speaking on the occasion, said that the institute planned a mentorship programme, under which every week a mentor (expert from the field), would speak to the students on the latest in the industry, besides aspects of personality development.
Corporate induction of selected students too will take place at the institute.
