'Man has emptied groundwater'
DH News Service, Kolar:

The possibility of the war in the future for water can't be dismissed if we don’t use the water judiciously and scientifically, said MLC V S Sudarshan.

Speaking at the inauguration of the distribution of Bio-Sand Water Filter to 411 schools in the Kolar taluk. The function was jointly organised by Kolar’s Prerana Charitable Trust and USA’s South Asia Pure Water Initiative Institution.

Sudarshan regretted that man in his haste and selfishness has almost emptied the groundwater which had accumulated over the millions of years.

Though Kolar and Chikkaballapur MLAs have pressurised the government to tackle the water scarcity in the region nothing concrete has happened, said Sudarshan who opined that it requires many years and a mass movement to tackle such a issue.

Water should be conserved through the use of modern technology, opined Sudarshan who suggested the use of drip irrigation and sprinklers for the purpose of water conservation. Sudarshan said that teachers have a greater role in spreading the awareness about the judicious use of water and conservation.

MLA K Srinivas Gowda who presided over the function accused the previous governments of not solving the water scarcity problem. He said that water scarcity problem had arisen only after the 80’s till then the water was easily available in the tanks and wells. The lack of rain in the region has to the drying up of the tanks and this has lead to the illegal sand mining in the tanks which in turn has lead to the variety of diseases in the region has sand naturally purifies the water, said Gowda.

USA’s South Asia Pure Water Initiative Institution’s Michael Lipman and Cyathy Porsberg, GP member Naganal Somanna, Prerana Charitable Trust’s Ramachandra Gowda were present.
