Taxi drivers livelihood affected
Shidlaghatta,DHNS:

Deputy Commissioner’s order with regard to eviction of shops has put poor people into misery. But, DC’s order has received good response from large number of people. The process of widening the road has already started.

As many as 600 shops owners have demolished their own shops to pave the way for widening the roads. But, footpath shopkeepers and taxi drivers are the badly affected by the order.

The order has shocked them as they are forced to leave the place where they were doing their business for the past 10 years.  Deputy Commissioner has ordered that petty shops shouldn’t be seen in the town.

On the other hand, taxicab drivers are also forced to to leave the  Government bus stand where they used to park their vehicles. Hence,  now, they  are encountered with the problem of place for parking.

Most of the drivers have take loan from the banks and are repaying it every month on installments basis.  Now, they  have no alternatives. People who appreciated the DC’s order in connection with widening the roads are also disappointed with the fact that the  order has become an obstacle for their livelihood.  They are of the opinion that district administration should make alternative arrangements for poor people.
