Placing farmers’ issues on top of its agenda, the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) on Saturday demanded that they should be relieved of their debts. The alliance leaders also called for raising the food subsidy, loans at 3 per cent interest for farmers and immediate implementation of the Dr Swaminathan committee report on farmers.
After the deliberations here, TDP president Chandrababu Naidu said, if these demands were not met by the Central Government, the UNPA would include them in its manifesto. Mulayam Singh Yadav, Om Prakash Chautala and Babu Lal Marandi , also attended the UNPA meeting.
