BJP men stage rail roko

More than 3,000 BJP activists thronged the Mangalore Central railway station, on Saturday morning and stopped all the trains going from the station, in protest against the delay in starting of Mangalore - Bangalore train service.

Though, there were hardly a few hundred activists till 10 am, their number crossed 3,000 by 11 am.

In fact, the announcement made by South Western Railways General Manager Praveen Kumar on Friday that the passenger train service will be started on December 8, had no impact on the BJP legislators of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

SEZ withdrawal sought

Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Green Brigade have demanded that the Union government should withdraw all special economic zone projects across the country.

Addressing a press conference in Bangalore on Saturday, Sangha President Kodihalli Chandrashekhar alleged that the CPM, which has been projecting itself as a pro-poor party, is killing innocents in Nandigram only to win over the favour of multi-national companies. The Centre should take the violence in Nandigram seriously, he demanded.

Hearing adjourned

The hearing on the petition seeking disqualification of 39 JD (S) MLAs, including former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, filed before Assembly Speaker has been adjourned to December 21.

The hearing has been adjourned as Speaker Krishna is indisposed, said the officials of the State legislature.

Following the adjournment, petitioner-legislators - Vatal Nagaraj, G C Sreerama Reddy and S Rajendran  - said that they were disappointed with the frequent adjournment of the petition which is pending for adjudication for the past 21 months.
