Renowned artist B G Mohammed felicitated
Kudla Kalavali concludes

Kudla Kalaavali Kalaamela, Mangalore's premier open air art exhibition, came to a colourful end at Kadri Park here on Sunday.


There may not be a better way to conclude this two day creative extravaganza than what the artists of Undivided Dakshina Kannada district have done.

B G Mohammed, the senior most artist of Mangalore, the ‘Guru’ of many a famous artist in the City, was honoured in a glittering ceremony amidst a cheering crowd.

The occasion was marked by the presence of Karavali Group of Colleges Chairman Ganesh Rao, Ullal MLA U T Khader and reputed artist from Mysore Ramdas Adyanthaya. Jeweller and art patron M Raghunath Shet presided.
Mr Mohammed was presented with a shawl, memento and citation. To top it all, well known artist from Mumbai Prashanth Shetty, better known as Chitramitra, presented him a painting as a mark of respect.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ganesh Rao said that the festival has turned out to be a grand success and the tremendous response from public will boost the confidence of the artists in the region.

He also urged that the fest should be continued in the coming years.

Prize winners

The prizes to the winners of ‘Chittha chitra,’ the painting competition organised as part of the festival, was distributed on the occasion by Mr Raghunath Shet.

The winners of the competition for primary section are Megha Shetty, Neha B and Sushmita D’Souza while for high school section, Rishikesh, Vikas R and Nihal D P bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. In addition, Akshay Prabhu, Nitish Kotian, Shayan Raj, Jackson Castellino, Vaibhav Shenoy (all from primary), Rachana Kishore, Shabari Gani, Shravya, Rakshan Raj and Maruthi (all from high school) won consolation prizes.

Demonstrations

Earlier in the day, live demonstrations were held for photography, collage and mural. ‘Kshanabimba,’ the photography demo was inaugurated by builder Manmohan Malli.

M Mukunda Prabhu, V U George, Dinesh Devadiga and corporator Ashok D K were the chief guests on the occasion. Collage demo ‘Bhavasankalana’ was inaugurated by Advocate M R Ballal. Reputed artist K P Shenoy demonstrated.

Sudesh Mahaan, Ramachandra Mijar and Artists Combine President Trevor Pinto were the chief guests. Artist Gopadkar performed the mural demonstration ‘Shringara bhitthi’ which was inaugurated by Ullas Kamath from Indian Oil Corporation. Artist Jagadish Ammunje, former mayor K Divakar and writer Parameshwari Lokeshwar were the chief guests on the occasion.
