Strawberry Fields as ever!
Saheer Karimbayil

The deadly chill was badly biting bones at the National Law School ground that night. If you got out of your jacket, you would have been frozen dead. But the thundering loud speakers, flashing stage-lights and a romantic mood set by heart-throbbing songs featuring strong love and emotions made the youth of Bangalore ignore the weather. The teens and couples screamed with delight as singers and guitarists emerged on the stage from the haze of colour smokes. The final round of the 11th year Rock Show, Strawberry Fields-07 conducted by the students of the National Law School at Nagarabhavi, really took the audience to a trance making them standing with their heads waving gently, completely lost in the music.

“It is one of the biggest Rock Shows in college level in India. Our aim is to spread the culture of Rock all over the country. We cannot help organising it given the support and enthusiasm from the sponsors and audience. Everybody loves it and that is why it goes on without a break. It’s reaching its 11th year,” said Rahul, a law student, who is a member of the event management committee of Strawberry Fields-07.

The final round started with the performance of Catalyst band, followed by four others and headlining bands. Though the chill in the air was severe and filtering down through the bones, the audience did not leave until the programme was over.  Youth of the City were seen dancing to the tunes and crying in appreciation of the bands.

They were demanding more and more after each song, obeying meekly to each directions by singers– like “please raise your hands”, “clap”, “smile”, “dance” and so on. The howling and shrieking reached its apex when the band Slain was declared winner of the Strawberry Fields-07.

This three day Rock Show competition saw 59 bands participating from all over the country and one from Bangladesh. Catalyst, Aum, Easy Street, Slain, Amidst the Chaos were the five bands who could make it to the final round. The headlining bands Lounge Piranha and Bhayanak Maut were the special attraction of the event.
The panel of Judges for the programme consisted of John Daniel, Sahil Makhija (Demon Stealer), Rahul Cherian, Geoffrey Thomas (Night Patrol, Radio Indigo) and Chris Avinash.

The event was sponsored by Nokia, Furtados (prizes), Reynolds (Sound and Lights), Radio Indigo, The Hindu Metro Plus, Mingle Box and DLF Builders.

The results of Strawberry Fields-07: Best Band - Slain (Rs 20000), Best College Band - Catalyst (Rs 10000), First Runners up - Amidst the Chaos (Rs 10000), Best bass guitarist - Aum (Rs 2500), Best Vocalist - Slain (Rs 2500), Best Drummer - Slain (Rs 2500) and Best Lead Guitarist - Slain (Rs 2500).
