Performance poetry

The SpeechMagic initiative presents ‘Words of freedom and love — an evening of performance poetry’ by poet, performer and Spoken Word artist Arka Mukhopadhyay. The performance will comprise his own published and recent work as well as works by a diverse range of poets such as Yeats, Neruda, Dylan Thomas, Akhmatova, Faiz, Jibanananda Das, among others.

Arka started the SpeechMagic initiative as an attempt to popularise the Spoken Word and oral performance art, especially among young people. The performance, that is non-ticketed, is on November 30, 6:30 pm at Easy Library, 972 H, 1st A Main, ST Bed Layout, 4th Block, Koramangala.

Cardio tennis workshop

Kinesis Sports Ltd, a tennis training institution based in Bangalore, is organising a three-day coach certification and cardio tennis workshop from December 1 to 3 at their new tennis academy at Yumlur. The workshop will be conducted by Louie Cap, the international master professional and United States Professional Tennis Registry coach. The event, believed to be a new way to get in shape and burn calories, will be open to tennis players above the age of 18 years and will include a warm up, cardio workout and cool down phases.

A second life

The art lovers of Bangalore is going to have a unique eye-feast at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath. The works of Ajai Chavan, the genius of the art of painting will be presented at an exhibition  here from December 1 to 7 from 10 am to 7 pm. With the theme ‘a second life’, the exhibition will be an unveiling of the soul of the artist. For over 20 years Ajai Chavan using his talent and ability for many of India’s most successful brands.

The theme is selected because, Ajai Chavan has been living an inner life hidden to all but his immediate relations for more than 10 years, which is considered a second life. And the collection of painting is the result of his hard work during this period.

Storytelling session

EasyLib.com, the online library in Bangalore is hosting a storytelling and activity session for children above 3 years of age on Saturday, the 1st of December from 3 pm to 4 pm. Neema and Ray from Kathalaya will regale children with the story 'Adventures of the Dear Mouse' and also read from Dr. Seuss' 'Cat in the Hat'. Mixed with Sing-Alongs the story hour will end with a craft activity. The event is held at the Easy Library premises in Koramangala. Entry is free but only with a prior registration.

Also on the 1st of December from 4:30 pm to 5:30 PM, the philosophy club at the library is meeting to discuss the topic 'Immanuel Kant: An overview'. The session is moderated by Geeta Ramanujam and open to all.

Painting contest for disabled kids

Botox in associatin with Parijma Neurodiagnostic and Rehabilitation Centre (PNRC) is organizing a half day programme for children affected with neuromuscular disorders on December 2 on the occasion of World Disability Day at the Parijma campus in Wilson Garden. A drawing and painting competition will also be organized.

The competition will be on the theme ‘Our Environment’ and is open for children in the age group of 4 to 18 and will commence at 10 am. Prizes will be distributed to the winners and participants will receive gift hampers. As a part of the programme, games and other fun-filled activities like a puppet-show ‘Punyakoti’. An interesting session for parents and teachers has also been organized.

The main objective behind this event is to encourage the special children to express themselves and boost their confidence. It will provide them with an opportunity to exhibit their inherent and unique talents. Enrollment is free and registrations close on November 29.
