Craft accomplishment
Sudha Venkatesh, an accomplished craft person in Bangalore recently received the National Award for Mastercraft persons for the year 2005 at a function in New Delhi.
The award comprises a cash prize of Rs 50,000, Tamrapatra and Angavastram.
The work selected for the award was a frame of Gangifa art, which contains 110 Gangifa cards arranged in 4 circular forms surrounded by four rectangular set of cards.
In the cards arranged in rectangular forms are deities which include Sri Rama, Sitadevi, Hanuman, Nalaraja, among many others.
While first circle form of cards depict Ganapathi in various types with Lakshmi Vallabha Ganapathi at the centre, the second circle at the top depicts various deities with Maha Vishnu and Adi Sesha at the centre.
The circles at the bottom right and left corners depict Sankshipta Ramayana and Krishna Leela respectively. Sudha Venkatesh learned this craft from her father M Ramanarasiah.
Fellowship awarded
Dr Naresh Shetty, Professor of Orthopaedics at M S Ramaiah Medical College and Medical Director of M S Ramaiah Memorial hospital has been awarded the Indian Orthopaedic Association, Foreign Fellowshi to attend the British Orthopaedic Society Conference at Manchester, UK.
He will be the first person from Karnataka to get this award. He was invited to present a paper on ‘Segmental Fractures of Tibia’. He is also the receipient of the award from the Asian Association for Dynamic OsteoSynthesis, based in Hong Kong to attend the OTA Annual Conference in Boston, USA.
