Former chief minister and Leader of the Opposition Rabri Devi and CLP leader Ashok Kumar were among the 1,000 people who courted arrest here on Friday during Bihar bundh.
The bundh, which evoked a mixed response, was called by the RJD, Congress, LJP, NCP and the BSP to protest against the assault on journalists by ruling party MLA Anant Singh here on Thursday.
The MLA was eventually arrested and sent to Beur jail on Thursday.
While most of the private schools remained closed on Friday, shops and business establishments evoked a partial response.
Movement of trains and road traffic was partially affected when bundh supporters blocked several highways in Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Sasaram and other districts.
Rabri Devi, however, claimed that the bundh was “spontaneous and successful”, and gave a clarion call to uproot the Nitish regime, which had rode to power in the name of establishing the rule of law in Bihar.
“We feel ashamed of (mis)rule of Nitish government,” Rabri Devi said.
